Event Description
On Wednesday, September 16, Emory’s Center for Ethics hosted a conversation between Emory’s Dr. Carol Anderson and Boston University’s Dr. Ibram X. Kendi as the inaugural James W. Fowler Ethics Lecture. In order to capitalize on the incredible opportunity to hear from Dr. Kendi, the Founding Director r of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research and the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers, HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST, among other accomplishments, the Department of Chemistry hosted a community conversation on this work on September 25th. Due to the depth and breadth of Dr. Kendi’s work, those who were unable to attend the Center for Ethics conversation were able to engage via supplemental readings curated by Dr. Ed Lee (see “Related Resources,” below.)
The community conversation was led by Dr. Ed Lee, the Senior Director of Emory’s Barkeley Forum and a co-founder of Spectrum. Forty members of the chemistry community attended and enjoyed a robust and challenging conversation about Dr. Kendi’s work and its relevance to promoting an anti-racist community in chemistry.
