project Description
Our Truths is a digital storytelling project that shares the lived experience of Black graduate students in the chemistry department. The stories address issues such as family, police, finances, academics, and belonging. The goal of the project is to elevate student voices to share the ways in which racism is present in our Emory context. Footnotes on each page connect these stories to systemic racism that extends beyond Emory’s walls. Through these stories, students seek to spark understanding, learning, and unlearning among our broader community to build a more robustly anti-racist culture.
Currently, this project is password protected. The password is available by request to members of the chemistry community. With student permission, we hope to share these stories publicly in the future. Some students and faculty have already shared additional stories via #BlackintheIvory, a similar storytelling project on Twitter.
